A serious crash south of Steinbach closed the Highway 12 and Provincial Road 303 intersection for several hours on Monday.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just before 11 a.m. after a flatbed truck and a pickup truck collided.

It appeared the flatbed truck was eastbound when it failed to stop at the controlled intersection and was struck by the southbound pickup.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported by STARS to Winnipeg. The driver of the flatbed truck was initially taken to Bethesda Hospital but STARS returned to the Steinbach airport shortly after 1 p.m. to transport that driver to Winnipeg also.

Though both drivers were said to have serious injuries, a spokesperson for STARS said neither of the patients required critical care.
