Two women die in Highway 12 crash

Two women were killed in a collision west of Ste Anne Monday afternoon.

Steinbach RCMP Sgt. Joanne Ryll said the women were the lone occupants in a westbound car on Seine Road attempting to turn north onto Highway 12. The car proceeded onto the highway and was struck by a northbound 18-wheeler that had the right of way.

Ryll did not know if the driver of the car had paused at the stop sign before driving onto Highway 12.

The crash, which occurred in a construction zone, happened shortly after noon.

Update (4:52 p.m.): Roads are now open.
