The province is prohibiting backcountry ATV travel in southeastern Manitoba due to recent weather conditions that has contributed to a high wildfire risk.

Motorized backcountry travel is banned from noon until 7 p.m. daily due to a string of warm temperatures and dry conditions. The restricted area encompasses Provincial Road 302 east to the Ontario border and from the American border north to Lake Winnipeg and the Winnipeg River, including the Mars Hill Wildlife Management Areas.

For areas where ATV use is permitted, the province asks riders to be mindful of the wildfire risk they pose. Operators are asked to stay on developed trails, ensure their ATV has a working spark arrestor, check areas around the engine and exhaust frequently and carefully remove any debris from those locations.
