Youth hit by vehicle critically hurt

Three youths walking along the side of the road early Monday evening are injured after they were struck by a vehicle.

RCMP said Tuesday morning one of the three youth is in stable condition, the second is stable with a broken leg and the third individual has been released from hospital. The youth hail from Mitchell.

On Monday night, one youth airlifted by STARS was described as “critically injured” by Kleefeld deputy fire chief Armin Dueck after the trio walking northbound on provincial road 206 in darkness were hit by a vehicle shortly before 6 p.m. a quarter-mile north of Highway 52. The two other youths were transported by ground ambulance.

Dueck was aware that two of the three youths were females. He did not know the gender of the other individual.

The youth were walking with what looked to be a gym bag, its contents unknown. The objects from the bag were strewn across a ditch to the east of the road. A single white glove was spotted some 100 yards away.

As of 10:35 p.m. Monday, police said their investigation would continue for the next two hours. PR 206 from Highway 52 to Randolph road remains barricaded until then to traffic.
