Selena Friesen Loewen was welcomed more than one week late but she arrived just in time to be named the 2015 New Year’s baby in southeastern Manitoba.
The third child for Larry and Anita Loewen of Zhoda, whose due date was on Dec. 23, was delivered at 6:36 a.m. Thursday.
Anita Loewen only spent a few hours at home in 2015 after leaving Steinbach’s hospital when her contractions increased so she was transferred to Ste Anne Hospital around 6 a.m.
Selena didn’t waste a lot of time, introducing herself to the world a half-hour later.
The 7 pound, 9 ounce baby girl, who slept through most of the camera’s flashing lights before stretching her tiny fingers, is 20 inches long. The newborn’s older siblings are Carlos, 3, and Sierra, 1.
The Loewens would have had their baby delivered in Steinbach but the hospital’s maternity ward was closed on New Year’s Day until 8 a.m.
