Aces edge Wild in finals opener

Steph Pattyn scored a goal and two assists to lead the defending champion Ste Anne Aces to a 3-2 victory over the Red River Wild Thursday night in Ste Anne in the opening game of the Carillon Senior Hockey League finals.

Pattyn scored just 90 seconds after the opening face-off and his brother Yvan Pattyn made it 2-0 Ste Anne a few minutes later.

But Red River responded with a pair of powerplay goals less than a minute apart early in the second as Cole Brunet and Brendan Heppner found the mark.

Brock Bram scored the winning goal for the Aces three minutes into the third period.

Red River outshot Ste Anne 35-23 as Guy St. Vincent made 33 saves to pick up the win for the Aces.

Game two in the best of seven finals will be played Sunday at 3:00 p.m.at St. Jean.
