A’s dominant in winning provincial title

It was a home run and a banner weekend in every respect for the community of La Broquerie and the host La Broquerie A’s who turned in a dominant performance in winning the Baseball Manitoba 15U ‘AA’ provincial championship this past weekend at La Broquerie.

The A’s will now represent Manitoba at the Western Canadian Bantam ‘AA’ Baseball Championships, Aug. 18-20 at Kamloops, B.C.

La Broquerie topped the field of 15 teams at provincials, going through the weekend undefeated, trouncing Elkhorn 14-6 in the provincial final Sunday evening. In the earlier semi-final, the A’s squeaked by Stonewall 9-8 to advance to the championship game.

The A’s won their pool with a perfect 4-0 record, opening with a narrow 7-6 victory over Brandon, then posted a pair of shutouts blanking Ste Rose 5-0 and Stonewall 10-0 before completing round robin play with a 23-1 triumph over Macdonald.

Grunthal also competed in the tournament and finished with a 2-2 round robin record and just out of the playoff round.

Members of the provincial champion La Broquerie A’s include: Justin Gudmundson, Mason Hartung, Gabryal Ross, Eric Mateychuk, Darius Morrow, Dawson Tanner, Zac Tetrault, Keyan Grimard, Dustin Broesky, Meech Nadeau, Carson Tufford and Rialey Lawless. Head coach is Mitch Nadeau with assistant coaches Ray Grimard and Mitch Tetrault.
