Bengert backstops Pistons to victory

The Steinbach Pistons returned to action Saturday night in Steinbach, winning their eighth game in a row with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Dauphin Kings.

Roman Bengert was the author of yet another victory for the first place Pistons as he made 31 saves to post the shutout, his fifth shutout of the campaign. He also lowered his goals against average to 1.99, second in the league behind teammate Matt Radomsky. The Pistons outshot the Kings 46-31 in the contest.

Scoreless in the first, Landon Plett, with this 16th of the season, made it 1-0 Steinbach in the second. Vaughn Dupre with his eighth and Jack Johnson, with his first goal as a Steinbach Piston, scored in the third.

Elsehwere in the MJHL last night: Winkler outscored Wayway 3-1, Virden got by Selkirk 2-1 in overtime, and Winnipeg defeated Swan Valley 3-1.

Steinbach, with a record of 33-5-1, have widened their lead atop the Manitoba Junior Hockey League standings as they have an eight-point lead on the Selkirk Steelers and are nine ahead of the Winkler Flyers. The Pistons also have three games in hand on the Steelers.

The Pistons next see action Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Winkler, in a game rescheduled from Dec. 7.
