Ste Anne natives Bailey Bram and Jocelyne Larocque are in Malmo, Sweden, competing for Team Canada at the World Women’s Hockey Championship.

Canada begins play in the tournament Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. (Manitoba) time versus the United States in a rematch of last year’s gold medal game at the Sochi Olympics, where Canada beat the U.S. in a comeback thriller. Larcoque played a key role on defence for Team Canada at the Olympics and was subsequently named the 2014 Manitoba Female Athlete of the Year by the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association for her performance at the Olympics.

Bram, a forward, and Laroque were both members of Team Canada at the World Championships in Ottawa in 2013 when Canada won the silver medal and a member of Canada’s 2012 gold medal winning world championship team.

Canada, which is seeking their 11th gold medal at the World Championships, will play three preliminary games at this year’s world championship, also taking on Russia on Sunday and then Finland on Tuesday, with both those games getting underway at 9:00 a.m. Manitoba time, with all games televised on TSN. The gold medal game will be played Saturday, April 4.
