The rains strategically stayed away late Friday morning as the 2017 Canada Games Torch Relay kicked off in Steinbach.

A total of 16 runners each ran the torch about 275 metres as the torch relay made its Manitoba debut in Steinbach, the first of 11 communities it will visit before finally arriving in Winnipeg for the kick-off of the 2017 Canada Summer Games, being held July 28 to August 13, primarily in Winnipeg.

The torch relay lasted less than an hour as it covered about four kilometres through the streets of Steinbach, beginning at the Manitoba Hydro office on North Front Road following the opening ceremonies and then winding up back at the hydro office, wrapping up with a community barbecue.
