Steinbach’s Celine Caron has been named to the Team Manitoba U-18 female hockey squad that will represent the province at the 2015 Canada Winter Games at Prince George, B.C.

Caron, who played high school boys hockey with the SRSS Sabres last season, is currently a forward with the Eastman Selects of the Manitoba Midget Female Hockey League.

Meanwhile, the Team Manitoba U-16 male team includes Eastman Selects ‘AAA’ midget forward Brett Davis from Oakbank. Team Manitoba will also have a significant Steinbach Pistons presence as Pistons assistant coach Rob Smith is also assistant coach of Team Manitoba at the Canada Winter Games.

In addition, three of the Pistons’ prospects have been named to the Team Manitoba roster. They include defenceman Mason Martin from Winnipeg who plays for the City Midget Winnipeg Sharks. Two forwards include Tanner Mole from Winnipeg who plays for the City Midget Winnipeg Monarchs, and Cayden Krause from East St. Paul, who is part of the Pursuit of Excellence program in B.C.

Selecting the two teams was a year long Program of Excellence process through a series of evaluation camps. Both the men’s and women’s hockey teams finished fifth at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax.
