Fournier powers Mohawks past Hawks

Joe Fournier scored three goals to lead the Mitchell Mohawks to a 5-2 victory over the St. Adolphe Hawks in Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League action Thursday night at Mitchell.

Mitchell romped out to a 3-0 lead early and never looked back as Fournier scored in each period, completing his hat trick midway through the third. Walker Ens and Zach also scored for the Mohawks while Ashton Meilleur and Ryan Wiebe replied for the Hawks.

Ryder Martens made 35 saves in the Mitchell net as St. Adolphe outshot the Mohawks 37-31.

It was St. Adolphe’s first game since returning to the loop this season while the Mohawks improved to 1-1.

There is only one HTJHL game on the schedule this weekend and that will be Friday night action at Grunthal as the Red Wings play their season opener hosting the Lorette Comets at 8:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Carillon Senior Hockey League also swings back into action on Friday as the Ste Anne Aces host the Grunthal Red Wings at 8:00 p.m.
