Harms powers Huskies to victory

Tanner Harms scored two goals to lead the Steinbach Huskies to a 5-1 victory over the Grunthal Red Wings in Carillon Senior Hockey League action Sunday night in Steinbach.

The win improves Steinbach’s record to 3-4-1 on the season while the Red Wings fall to 3-7.

Harms scored in the first and third periods as the Huskies skated to period leads of 2-0 and 3-1.

Jamieson Krentz, Tyler Funk and Kevin Burton had the the Steinbach markers. Jeff Penner beat Caden Unger for Grunthal’s lone goal in the second. Unger made 25 saves in the game as the Red Wings actually outshot the Huskies 26-23.

Only one other game in the CSHL on the weekend came Saturday night at Oakbank in a clash for first place as the visiting Red River Wild beat the Springfield 98s 5-3. Red River leads the loop with an 8-1 record, two points ahead of the 98s.

CSHL play resumes Wednesday night in Steinbach at 8:00 p.m. as the Huskies host the defending champion Ste. Anne Aces in a rematch of last year’s championship series.
