The Steinbach Huskies have eliminated the Grunthal Red Wings from the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League playoffs, scoring a 6-5 overtime victory Thursday night at Grunthal.

Zach Cumming scored at 1:30 of overtime to end the game as the Huskies win the best of five quarter-final series 3-1.

The Huskies, who led 3-0 after the first, were cruising along with a 5-3 lead midway through the third before the Red Wings scored twice, included the tying marker by Bailey Harder with one minute remaining to make this a dramatic finish.

Cumming had two goals and an assist for the Huskies while Brandyn Smook continued his strong post-season play with three goals and an assist. Miguel Charter also had four points for the Huskies on a goal and three helpers. Smook had 15 points, including seven goals in the four games to lead all post-season scoring.

Mason Dyck led the Red Wings with two goals and two assists in the contest.

Meanwhile, the Springfield Xtreme will play the Mitchell Mohawks Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at Oakbank in the fifth and deciding game of their series.

Elsewhere, the St. Adolphe Hawks swept the Lorette Comets three straight, wining all three games by a single goal, two of them in overtime.

The best of seven semi-finals will get underway next week.
