After losing 3-1 to the MJHL leading Portage Terriers Friday at Portage, the Steinbach Pistons bounced back to beat the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 4-2 last night in Steinbach and in the process moved back into second place in the standings ahead of the Winnipeg Blues. The Blues were hammered 8-1 by the Terriers last night.
Were it not for the outstanding goaltending from veteran netminder Mitch Wiebe, the score would have much more lopsided as the Pistons outshot the Wolverines 49-18 but Wiebe stopped 45 to keep his club in the game. Steinbach skated to period leads of 2-1 and 3-2.
Landon Cross, Cole Smith, Colin Baudry and Jonah Wasylak were the Steinbach goal scorers.
Steinbach improves to 28-12-6, actually tied with the Winnipeg Blues, each with 62 points, but the Pistons have a game in hand on the Blues. Wayway dropped to 17-27-3.
Two other games in the MJHL last night saw OCN get by Winkler 3-2 in a shootout and Swan Valley also beat Virden 3-2 in a shootout.
Next up for the Pistons they travel to Neepawa on Wednesday to take on the last place Natives in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Yellowhead Centre.
