The Steinbach Pistons broke open a 2-2 tie in the third period with three unanswered goals to defeat the Neepawa Natives 5-2 Wednesday night at the Yellowhead Centre in Neepawa.

Jordan Bochinski and Mackenzie Graham had two goals each for the winners while Bradley Schoonbaert also had a strong game with a goal and two assists.

Steinbach took a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Natives narrowed the lead to 2-1 with the lone goal of the second before Reigan Buchanan tied it for the Natives with just over eight minutes remaining in the third. Two minutes later Bochinski notched the winning goal.

It was a strong overall performance for the Pistons, outshooting a vastly improved Neepawa team 35-22 as Roman Bengert picked up the win in net.

One week earlier in Steinbach the Pistons beat these same Natives 8-7 and Neepawa was flying high after knocking off the OCN Blizzard on the weekend.

One other game last night, between two of the MJHL’s heavyweights, saw the Portage Terriers outscore the Winkler Flyers 4-1.

With the win, the first place Pistons now have 41 points on a stupendous 20-3-1 record and a four-point edge and a game in hand on the second place Blizzard.

Steinbach goes back to work Friday night at home when they host the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. at the T.G. Smith Centre. The Pistons will then take on the Winnipeg Blues Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the MTS Iceplex.
