The Southeast Prairie Thunder were eliminated from the 2017 Allan Cup Senior AAA National Hockey Championships Friday at Boutouche, New Brunswick, as they lost 8-4 in the semi-finals to their Allan Cup rivals, the Lacombe Generals from Alberta, formerly the Bentley Generals.

A close game for 40 minutes, that saw the Thunder take a 3-2 lead into the third, but the Generals exploded for six third period goals enroute to the 8-4 triumph.

Matt Lowry had a pair of goals for the Thunder while Luke Shane and Reid Gow each had a goal and an assist. Myles Bell had three goals for the Generals.

Lacombe will take on Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, in today’s Allan Cup final.

The Prairie Thunder and Generals have a long history in Allan Cup play the past decade. The Generals defeated the Prairie Thunder in overtime in both Allan Cup finals in Steinbach in 2009 and 2016.

When the Thunder won their second Allan Cup in 2015 at Clarenville, NL, it was the Bentley Generals they beat in the final.

Next year’s Allan Cup will be hosted at Rosetown, Sask. The Prairie Thunder defeated the Rosetown Red Wings in a three game series in March in Winnipeg to qualify for this year’s Allan Cup.
