Rain plays havoc with baseball schedules

Weekend rains washed out the Victoria Day doubleheader at Ile des Chenes between the  Carillon Sultans and Pembina Valley Orioles. The twinbill will be rescheduled to later in the season.

The Sultans, with a 1-2 record early on in this Manitoba Junior Baseball League season, next see action Friday night in Steinbach as they host the St. Boniface Legionaires at 7:00 p.m. at A.D. Penner Park.

Meanwhile, wet grounds in Mitchell have delayed by one day the Zone 13 high school baseball championships. Originally scheduled to be played today, the four-team touranment will instead be played Wednesday at Mitchell. At 9:00 a.m. it will be Green Valley vs. Edward Schreyer and SRSS vs. Gabrielle Roy.

The final at Mitchell goes Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Provincial High School Baseball Championships, being played June 1-3 at Altona.

The Zone 13 high school girls’ fastpitch championships are being held all day today and tomorrow at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. Competing are the SRSS, Gabrielle Roy, Green Valley, Lorette, Ste Anne and Edward Schreyer.

The final will be played Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Two teams, including the host SRSS Sabres, will advance to the Provincial High School Girls’ Fastpitch Championships, being held June 1 & 2 at Mitchell.
