Winning their incredible 20th game in a row, including five straight in the playoffs, the SRSS Sabres, who finished second in their division, crushed the first place St. Paul’s Crusaders 6-1 Monday at the MTS Iceplex in the opening game of the Winnipeg High School Hockey League Winnipeg Free Press Division #1 finals.

Game two in the best of three series will be played today at 5:00 p.m. in Steinbach. Should a deciding game be necessary, it would be played Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Iceplex.

The winner of this series will play the Winnipeg Free Press Division #2 champs, either Springfield or Transcona in the best of three championship series, with all three of those games to be played next week at the Iceplex. Springfield defeated Transcona 3-2 in overtime in that series opener yesterday.

Matthew Broesky had a dominant game for the Sabres in their huge victory over the Crusaders as he scored three goals and added an assist. Rounding out the scoring for the Sabres were Nico Chiasson, Tyler Bueckert and Ryan Friesen, who also had a pair of assists.

Avery Neufeld picked up the win in net, stopping 17 of 18 shots he faced.

Game time again today at the T.G. Smith Centre, is 5:00 p.m.
