It was a disappointing start to the Telus Midget ‘AAA’ Western Regionals Thursday night in Steinbach for the host Eastman Selects as the Selects were a non-factor in a 5-1 loss to the Thunder Bay Kings.

The Kings romped out a 3-0 first period lead and held on for the decisive victory. Burke Heide scored the lone goal for the Selects in the second period.

In the earlier game, in what many believe was a preview of Sunday’s final, the Regina Pat Canadians edged the Winnipeg Wild 2-1.
