For the second weekend in a row the Carillon Junior Sultans lost out to the elements as a scheduled Manitoba Junior Baseball League doubleheader Sunday between the Sultans and St. James A’s at St. James was washed out.

The Sultans also had a Victoria Day doubleheader at Ile des Chenes against the Pembina Valley Orioles postponed, which has now been re-scheduled into single games June 26 and July 4 at Ile des Chenes.

Although the Sultans have had four of their eight games washed out this year, they did play Friday night at Steinbach and emerged with a 7-3 victory over the St. Boniface Legionaries.

The Sultans are now 2-2 on the season, and Cody Bartel was the winner on the mound for both those triumphs. Bartel, the Baseball Manitoba Midget Player of the Year for 2016 and a finalist for the Manitoba Junior Athlete of the Year, tossed a no-hitter in the season-opening victory over Interlake.

Friday at home, Bartel went the distance allowing three runs on six hits in another steady performance. Bartel also had a pair of hits and scored two runs to help his cause. Matt Funk and Kyle Peters also had two hits each for the Sultans, who led 4-1 after the third.

The Sultans next see action Wednesday night at Altona as they take on the Bisons at 7:00 p.m.
