The Steinbach Pistons have announced that TSN hockey analyst Shane Hnidy will be the guest speaker at the Pistons Sixth Annual Fire & Ice fundraising banquet being held Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Friedensfeld Community Centre south of Steinbach.

Hnidy, a native of Neepawa, played 10 years in the National Hockey League, winning a Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011 in his final year of pro hockey. A 6’2″ defenceman, Hnidy played 550 NHL games in his career for six different teams as he also spent time with the Ottawa Senators, Nashville Predators, Atlanta Thrashers, Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild.

Hnidy is no stranger to Steinbach as he played here against the Eastman Selects playing AAA midget hockey with the Yellowhead Chiefs before he went on to play junior hockey in the MJHL with the Neepawa Natives and then in the Western Hockey League with the Swift Current Broncos and Prince Albert Raiders.

Past speakers at the Pistons Fire & Ice Banquet have included Stu Grimson, Craig Heisinger, Mark Chipman, Doug Brown and Kevin Cheveldayoff.

Anyone interested in purchasing tickets for the banquet, at $100 a person, can call 204-371-1951 or INFO@STEINBACHPISTONS.CA.

The Pistons are in action at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the T.G. Smith Centre as they entertain the Winnipeg Blues.
