SRSS Sabres football coach Jamie Peters is a guest coach this weekend at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers annual Coaches Super Clinic at Investors Group Field that runs Friday through Sunday.

As part of the weekend, some of Manitoba’s most notable coaches join the Blue Bombers coaching staff at the clinic, that will include professional development seminars and on-field sessions. Novice coaches of all levels are invited to participate in the clinic. More than 240 coaches attended the clinic in 2014.

The Blue Bombers Coaches Clinic is the only free clinic in Manitoba offering National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certification in Football Canada’s Community Coach, Introduction to Competition and Safe Contact Modules.

“Supporting amateur football is at the heart of our mandate as an organization,” said Wade Miller, President & CEO of the Winnipeg Football Club.

Three Winnipeg Blue Bomber assistant coaches are instructing at the clinic, including: Gene Dahlquist (quarterbacks coach), Pat Tracey (special teams coodinator) and Barron Miles (defensive backs coach), in addition to Saskatchewan Roughriders receivers coach Bobby Dyce.

Other instructors at the camp will include coaches from the U of M Bisons and Winnipeg Rifles. Peters, who was also an instructor at last year’s clinic, is one of only two Winnipeg High School Football League coaches invited to the clinic, along with Miles Mac head coach Dan Washnuk. Peters and Washnuk will also again be coaching the U18 Provincial Team this summer.

Meanwhile, Peters says he had a great response in registration numbers for next year’s team, 65 in all. The rookie camp will run all next week at the SRSS beginning at 4:00 p.m. each day. There will be about 45 players at the rookie camp. The main spring camp will follow from May 4-22.
