The Steinbach Pistons continue to gain ground on the third place Winnipeg Blues in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League standings. Two nights after the Pistons beat the Blues 5-3, the Pistons were 5-4 winners over the OCN Blizzard Saturday night in Steinbach.

Steinbach improves to 16-7-2 on the season, and are now just two points behind the Blues, who lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Portage Terriers last night.

It was a wild one at T.G. Smith Centre last night. Scoreless after the first period, the two teams pumped in nine goals over the final 40 minutes as the Pistons withstood a late OCN rally to hold on for the victory.

Steinbach took a commanding lead in the second period with four unanswered goals, but the Blzzard outscored the Pistons 4-1 in the third to make it interesting, narrowing the gap to 5-4 with 42 seconds remaining in the game.

Colin Baudry paced the Pistons with a pair of goals while Dan Taillefer, Landon Cross and Jonah Wasylak, who had a goal and two assists, rounded out the Steinbach scoring. Steinbach outshot OCN 44-35 as Nick Deery made 31 saves for the Pistons.

The Pistons now have the week off before hosting a pair of games in Steinbach next weekend as the Virden Oil Capitals come to town on Friday and the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Saturday.
