The Eastman Selects had a very profitable showing in Steinbach this past weekend as they won all three of their games, including a decisive 5-1 victory over the Pembina Valley Hawks Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Manitoba ‘AAA’ Midget Hockey League Showcase.

Eastman was the host the region for the second annual league Showcase and they held the event in Steinbach because they needed two ice surfaces to run the tournament. The Selects, after being based in Steinbach for many years, relocated to Beausejour when the Steinbach Pistons arrived five years ago.

Each of the 12 league teams were in Steinbach for the three-day event and each team played two or three games, which all counted in the regular season standings.

Eastman got the ball rolling with a 3-1 victory over the Central Plains Capitals on Friday night and then stepped it up a couple of notches with a pair of victories over two key league rivals as they downed the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-3 on Saturday night before finishing off Pembina Valley on Sunday.

The Selects are tied with Brandon for third in the league standings with a 5-3 record. The two Winnipeg teams, the Wild at 7-0 and the Thrashers 7-1, lead the loop.

Eastman’s Brad Goethals continues his torrid scoring pace as he leads the league with eight goals in eight games and is second in league scoring with 14 points.

The Selects return to action on Friday as they take on the Interlake Lightning at Teulon.
