Ryan Derksen is the first person to throw his hat into the ring for a councillor seat in Steinbach this fall.
Derksen says the city would benefit from the promotion of a “sustainable environment for families, businesses and recreation” which includes, he said, “partnering with all levels of government to ensure fiscal responsibility.”
Derksen pointed to his managerial experience and experience as a graduate of the University of Manitoba Bachelor of Science program.

“I believe that being a student, specifically in a post-secondary setting, means you are more than a student of just one field – your studies expand to include what drives a community and promotes well-being for its residents,” he said in a release.
The council candidate also highlighted his volunteer work at his church and at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg.
Derksen lives in Steinbach with his wife, Ariana Tennyson.
Steinbach mayor Chris Goertzen is the only other candidate to confirm a run for Steinbach city council so far. Municipal council and school trustee elections will take place on Oct. 22.
