While Steffan Reimer couldn’t defend his top Manitoban finish from last year’s Manitoba Marathon, the podium still had some Eastman flair, as La Broquerie’s Jalla Van Dongen earned a bronze medal in the women’s event.
Van Dongen finished with a final time of 3:15:28, only behind two-time champion Dawn Neal and Jessica Wylychenko, both from Winnipeg.
Reimer suffered an injury in the run-up to the event, and while he wasn’t able to keep up with the leaders after mile 15 this year, decided to drop back and run in pace with Wylychenko and help block the wind for his teammate. Despite the injury, Reimer still finished in a strong position, sneaking inside the top 10 with a time just over two hours 55 minutes.

Of the 832 total finishers at the Manitoba Marathon this year, 45 are from the region, with Reimer joined in the top fifty by New Bothwell’s Josh Doerksen (23rd) and Van Dongen, who finished 42nd in the total standings.
Blumenort’s Oliver Coop (60th), Kleefeld’s Ricky Foulds (73rd), Lorette’s Robert Gendron (88th) and St Pierre-Jolys’ Colin Lafreniere (94th) all finished inside the top 100.
The men’s event was topped by Ohio’s Andrew Taylor, who finished 10 minutes ahead of his nearest competition. The podium was rounded out by Winnipegger Tyler Derksen and American David Plotkin.
The half marathon was won by Olympians Natasha Wodak (women’s) and Cameron Levins (men’s). Levins is training to represent Canada at this year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
