Niverville has laid down a $20,000 down payment as they plan to spend $140,000 to add a new vehicle to their fire department’s fleet.

At a Niverville council meeting last Tuesday morning, the town announced plans to purchase a Dodge Ram 5500 Series vehicle to be used as a Rescue 1 vehicle to transport emergency workers and equipment to emergency scenes.

A 1990 Chevrolet Suburban currently serves as the Rescue 1 vehicle. Mayor Myron Dyck said the upgrade is something Niverville emergency workers have been asking for.

Dyck said the purchase of the vehicle is expected to be completed by the end of this week.
