Representatives from Teen Challenge have made a request for funding from the RM of Hanover, as they look to set up a Teen Challenge office in the municipality.

At a Hanover council meeting on Wednesday morning Teen Challenge representatives Terry Thiessen and Daniel Emond told council they would like Teen Challenge to be able to set up a “local community resource office” in Hanover that would work in a number of ways to assist youth and families dealing with addictions issues in the area.

Emond told council they would need between approximately $75,000 and $80,000 to get an office up and running, and they hope they council will consider footing all or part of that cost.

“That number is a projected budget of what it would cost for us to create a local community resource office,” Emond said.

“We’re asking for help, and if council could cover the entire cost that would be great but if they can’t we are asking for them to consider what they would be able to contribute.”

Emond added they would also seek annual funding from Hanover should the office be set up.

Thiessen said he believes the office is important because Hanover and the Southeast is an area where they currently service a high number of clients.

“Currently Hanover is a place where we do a lot of work and where we have a number of clients that have the need,” Thiessen said. “So all we doing is saying to council ‘there is a need in your community, and we are here to help, and would you support us?”

Hanover Reeve Stan Toews told Thiessen and Emond that council will consider their funding request, but added council could not offer any commitment at Wednesday’s meeting.
