Southeast Manitoba pauses to remember

Remembrance Day ceremonies are taking place inside community halls and at cenotaphs across the Southeast on Saturday, as citizens take the time to pause to remember.

Steinbach

Steinbach’s Remembrance Day ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre. Like past years, the public is asked to arrive by 10:30 a.m.

The service will include the Stoneybrook Royal Canadian Air Cadet squadron, Steinbach Scouts and Girl Guides and representatives of all three levels of government.

Rev. Simba Mazhara from the United Church of Steinbach will be officiating.

Following the service there will be a wreath placed at the cenotaph. People are welcome to place a poppy there as well.

Niverville

A ceremony will take place at the Heritage Cemetery, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

St Pierre

The Village of St Pierre has once again organized a service with indoor and outdoor components.

The ceremony will begin at the Recreation Centre Hall at 10:45 a.m. Local cadets and dignitaries will lay wreaths and a bugler and bagpiper will play.

After the ceremony, a procession will march to the cenotaph to lay more wreaths. A light snack back at the hall will follow.

Lorette

The RM of Tache has organized a Remembrance Day ceremony at College Lorette Collegiate beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The service will feature the College Lorette Collegiate band, recognition of veterans by Mayor Armand Poirier, the laying of wreaths, and the recitation of In Flanders Fields by Kiana McDonald.

Refreshments will follow in the lobby.

Morris

This year’s event moves indoors replacing the traditional march to the cenotaph.

The Remembrance Day service will take place at the Morris Multiplex south hall beginning at 10:45 a.m.

A light lunch will follow.

St Adolphe

The RM of Ritchot has organized a service at the St Adolphe cairn outside the municipal office beginning at 10:40 a.m. The mayor and council will deliver speeches and local schoolchildren will read poems, followed by a wreath-laying. A short reception will follow.

Emerson

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 77 has organized a service beginning at 10:45 a.m. in the Emerson complex.

The program will include the laying of wreaths, the March on the Colours, the national anthem, hymns and prayers and the reading of more than 320 names of veterans from the RM of Emerson-Franklin.

Whitemouth

The Whitemouth Museum is coordinating a Remembrance Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the cenotaph on Main Street. It will inlcude local, provincial and federal representatives. The local Lions Club will provide refreshments.
