Pedestrian dead following Main Street collision

A female pedestrian from Steinbach died on Monday morning after attempting to cross Main Street at Southwood Drive in Steinbach.

The woman, who was 79-years-old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews were called around 11 a.m. to the scene. Paramedics were observed aiding the woman on a stretcher in the eastbound lanes of Main Street. A tarp was then used to shield the scene as a blanket was draped over her body.

The driver of the truck, a 64-year-old La Broquerie resident, was uninjured.

Police said in a release that a traffic analyst is helping in the investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Alcohol, police said, has been ruled out as a contributing factor.
