Tasty, unique and creative burgers will soon be sizzling in Steinbach when the city’s first ever Burger Week comes to town.

Inspired by the Burger Week event that takes place in Winnipeg annually, the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce will host the first ever Steinbach Burger Week Sept. 8-14 at a number of Steinbach-based restaurants and diners.

Chamber executive director Ben Dueck said the idea for the event came from a simple conversation in the chamber’s Steinbach office.

“Some staff were just chatting and said ‘Steinbach should do a burger week,’ so I brought that to our committee and the committee was immediately on board. They loved the idea,” Dueck said.

Dueck said once they started to contact local restaurants with their idea, they realized very quickly that many of those restaurants loved the idea as well.

“We weren’t sure how it was going to go over, or if restaurants were even going to be interested,” Dueck said. “We would have gone forward if we had a minimum of five businesses involved, and before we knew it we had 12.”

“These restaurants were really excited.”

Dueck said since announcing the event the chamber has been promoting it on their website and social media pages and he said so far the event has received a lot of “traction” online.

“We’ve been getting lots of positive feedback, we’ve got lots of people liking our posts and sharing our posts. I think it’s going to be really good,” he said.

Burger Week will feature original burgers being served at 12 Steinbach restaurants with burger recipes ranging from a nacho burger and a surprise burger, to a Mennonite burger and a maple bacon breakfast burger.

The chamber has also found a way to get those who try out some of the burgers involved in Burger Week and entered to win prizes.

During Burger Week participants can take picture of themselves enjoying their burgers and post them on Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #steinburger and if they do they will be entered to win prizes.

Participants can also go to the chamber website and rate the burgers under the categories of best tasting and most creative burger, and by doing so they will also be entered to win prizes.

Dueck said he believes the event will be a boom for the businesses who are taking part, and a chance for them to offer some very original burger recipes.

“There are so many unique creations we have already seen ranging from breakfast burgers to a veggie burger and everything in between, and they are all going to be impressive,” Dueck said.

“And we think this is going to lead to some good traffic and great promotion for these businesses. We think the restaurants will see some uptake in their traffic during Burger Week.”
