The Steinbach Chamber of Commerce announced on Tuesday in an email to its membership that executive director Ben Dueck was leaving his position, effective immediately.

Chamber president Tim Schmitt, in the email, credited Dueck’s vision and leadership for the success with chamber mixers and round table events.

Dueck joined the chamber as executive director in the spring of 2017, replacing Linda Peters.

Schmitt told The Carillon that Dueck resigned from his position to pursue other leadership opportunities. He added that Dueck’s plans to depart had been known by board members for some time. With strategic planning meetings for the coming year on the horizon, Schmitt said the timing was right for Dueck to move on and allow for a “fresh start” in the new year.

Schmitt said that the chamber’s membership development coordinator, Michelle Bezditny, will serve in an interim executive director role.

No firm timeline has been established to fill the position permanently, Scmitt said, adding Bezditny has agreed to take on the interim role for a period of up to six months.
