An announcement on Wednesday afternoon is turning on the financing tap for a major water project in the RM of Ritchot.

The federal and provincial governments will both contribute $1 million in funding towards upgrades to Ritchot’s raw water supply system. The municipality will contribute another $1 million of its own to the project as well.

It will also increase the capacity of the reservoir to meet rising water use from across a number of areas of the municipality, including Ste Agathe, St Adolphe, Ile des Chenes, as well as the Riel Industrial Park and rural residents in the municipality.

Funds will also support the planned future expansion of the regional water system to the community of Grande Pointe and area.

Project funding was made available through the Small Communities Fund.
