The RM of Hanover has filled the role of deputy fire chief for the brand new Blumenort Fire Station.

Roberto Hiebert of Blumenort will take on the role at the station, which is expected to open sometime next summer.

Hiebert currently lives in Blumenort and owns and operates Two Peppers.

He said once the station is up and running they will work closely with members from the fire station in New Bothwell “for a period of internship.”

“It’s not something I’m just going to jump into immediately,” Hiebert said. “They will assist us in all aspects of all calls until Fire Chief Paul Wiebe feels comfortable for Blumenort to respond independently.”

He said he believes having a fire station in the area will be beneficial for those who live in and around the Blumenort area, and for all the residents of Hanover.

“I think the community is very excited about it and I think it’s long overdue,” Hiebert said. “We’ve been serviced by Steinbach and they have done a terrific job, but this just made a lot of sense location-wise.

“We now have halls at all ends of the municipality so we will be able to service the RM very well.”
