Man arrested after New Year’s assaults

A 27-year-old Steinbach man has been arrested after police say two people were assaulted at a McKenzie Avenue home early on New Year’s Day.

Police said a suspect was located breaking into a nearby parked vehicle and was arrested after fighting with police, after they were called to the scene at about 1:39 a.m.

Police then located a 28-year-old female at the residence suffering serious injuries, who remains in Winnipeg hospital in stable condition.

A 35-year-old male also suffered non-life threatening injuries when he tried to assist the female victim, police said.

Both victims were also Steinbach residents.

27-year-old Harley Delorme faces charges of assault causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and mischief under $5,000.

Police said Delorme sustained minor injuries from breaking a car window and noted he would appear today in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
