It’s shaping up to be another busy weekend in southeastern Manitoba, as both well-known festivals and new special events get underway.

Hanover Ag Fair

The annual Hanover Ag Fair will take place in Grunthal Aug. 17-20, and organizers say it will be an opportunity to celebrate local agriculture and life in the Hanover community.

“Hanover Ag Fair is a celebration of living in the country and rural living,” said chairperson Wayne Lemay. “Traditionally the fair is a time for people in the rural areas to get together.”

The fair kicks off Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with Bullarama, a bull riding competition that will feature some of the top competitors from all over Canada.

The CWHA Horse Show happens Friday morning starting at 8 a.m. and features riders of all ages and experience levels competing in a variety of classes and disciplines.

The MRCA/CCA Rodeo takes place both Friday and Saturday, and will see two days of semi-professional rodeo action.

The Hanover Ag Fair will also feature a demolition derby, family fun zone, parade, live entertainment, and an “Agucation Centre,” where families can learn more about local farming and agriculture.

Marchand Logging Days

Marchand Logging Days, held annually on the second last weekend of August, takes place this Saturday and Sunday and features a number of events and unique competitions.

Those who come out can watch or take part in events such as log sawing, an ATV obstacle course, mud bogging, and a slow pitch tournament.

There will also be children’s games and a fireworks display.

Rainbow Trout Music Festival

One of Manitoba’s largest indie music festivals will take place this weekend on the banks of the scenic Rosseau River, just south of St Malo.

The Rainbow Trout Music Festival will feature three days of music, camping, bonfires, dancing, and swimming.

The volunteer-driven event showcases local musical talent from a wide range of genres including rock, electronic, hip-hop, blues, jazz, folk, garage, funk and reggae.

Boreal Shores Art Tour

This weekend also brings the first ever Boreal Shores Art Tour, a free, self-guided art tour taking place throughout eastern Manitoba.

The tour will showcase artists from a number of communities throughout the region, and feature artist studios, artist group locations, and galleries.

Those who take part can pick up a passport at a number of Manitoba locations for a chance to win prizes, and then hit the road to discover the work of talented Manitoba artists.
