The provincial government announced Friday that Niverville is one of seven municipalities selected for the expansion of cannabis retail sales in Manitoba.

The province said the newly identified communities allow the province to meet its goal of having a non-medical cannabis retail store available within a 30-minute drive of 90 percent of Manitobans.

Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Blaine Pederson said in a release the provincial government has been working with local governments to ensure they have ‘fair say’ and are onboard with the proposed retail locations.

Operators for the businesses will be selected from a random draw of nearly 100 applicants who expressed interest through a pre-qualification process last July.

Other communities included in the province’s announcement are Altona, Flin Flon, Lac du Bonnet, Swan River, Virden and the RM of Russell-Binscarth.
