One dead in Anola crash

Highway 12, just north of Anola, is closed and an investigation is underway, following a fatal two-vehicle collision shortly before 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

The closure extends from just north of Highway 15 to Corbett Road (Road 61N).

RCMP Cpl. Chris Haskins said on scene that preliminary investigation revealed the collision involved two vehicles travelling northbound on the highway. One of the vehicles caught fire as a result of the collision, he said.

Springfield fire chief Jeff Hudson said firefighters were called to the crash and extinguished the vehicle fire. 

More information on the collision is expected to be released Wednesday morning, police said.

The highway is expected to remain closed while a collision analyst continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Traffic on Tuesday afternoon was redirected to mile roads surrounding the collision scene.
