Permit figures top $57 million

Building permit numbers for last month in the City of Steinbach made official that 2017 was stronger year for the city, besting permit totals from the previous three years.
The total value for permits issued in December was $834,000, bringing overall permit values for the year to a grand total of $57,064,337.
Mayor Chris Goertzen noted to his council colleagues on Tuesday night that the year was marked by both commercial and residential growth.
He pointed to the addition of 233 new dwelling units as a positive sign.
“I think it is really substantial. To see people continuing to invest in our community is a gratifying thing.”
The city’s best year on record is 2012 when 244 new dwelling units were created but other major projects pushed permit totals to over $122 million.
