The RM of Piney declared a state of emergency on Monday afternoon as it worked with Manitoba Sustainable Development and the Office of the Fire Commissioner to coordinate firefighting efforts in the Carrick, Badger and Florze areas.

The municipality reported in a release on Monday afternoon that the fire has consumed over 1,000 hectares.

A Level 1 Fire and Travel Restriction has been issued for all motorized vehicles including ATVs, dirt bikes, etc. on all back country roads from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until further notice.

A complete burn ban, including burn barrels, fire pits and open fires, is also in effect.

Provincial Road 203 remains closed between Badger and Carrick.
