Pioneer Days will once again see thousands of people gather in Steinbach, while getting an opportunity to take a trip back in time.

“It’s something that everyone should come and see for themselves, because it’s a real opportunity to take a step back in time and see how our ancestors lived, and what many of them had to do just to survive,” Mennonite Heritage Village program director Anne Toews said.

The annual Pioneer Days in Steinbach runs Aug. 4 to Aug. 7 at the Mennonite Heritage Village, and will feature four days of events and activities for adults and children.

Toews said one of the biggest draws every year at Pioneer Days is the opportunity people get to see how people lived and how they worked more than 100 years ago.

“It’s a fun event, but it’s also a very interesting event with everything that is going on,” Toews said.

There will be antique threshing and field work demonstrations, as well as demonstrations of horse powered log sawing and other antique farming demonstrations.

Pioneer Days will also feature demonstrations of bread baking in an outdoor oven, steam powered activities and the chance to visit with live interpreters.

Pioneer Days will kick off with the annual Pioneer Days Parade tomorrow at 10 a.m., and this year the theme for the parade is all about children and how they lived in the days of the pioneers.

The Steinbach Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the parade every summer said on their website the theme for the 49th Annual Pioneer Days Parade is ‘It’s all about the kids,’ adding this year’s parade will be “a look into the past 150 years on what life was like for kids.”

Along with pioneer demonstrations Pioneer Days will also feature the city of Steinbach 150 Mosaic Mural on display, horse drawn wagon and buggy rides, a family history station and nighty entertainment.
