The official opening of the annual poppy campaign in Canada commences today.

As a result of donations to this campaign, the Steinbach Legion provided $10,000 to Bethesda Hospital’s cancer care program, $2,500 to Stony Brook Air Cadets, along with other donations to various causes in 2017.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, in which 55,000 Canadians sacrificed their lives for freedom which ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 1918.

This year’s Remembrance Day service in Steinbach will be held at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre on Nov. 11 at 10:45 a.m. Pastor Marc Moir of the Covenant Reform Church will officiate.

A light lunch at the Steinbach Legion will follow the service.

Organizations and citizens wishing to lay a wreath during this service are asked to contact any Legion member, call 204-326-5335 or through www.steinbachlegion.ca.
