Province provides community project funding

The province announced funding on Tuesday for 57 community development projects across Manitoba, including several in the Southeast.

A total of $950,000 in funding was announced by Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton.

The Steinbach Curling Club will receive $20,000 for its curling rock replacement project. St Malo arena will also get $20,000 for an ice resurfacer purchase. Ile des Chenes will be provided $11,018 towards a Zamboni battery replacement. Ritchot Serving Seniors has successfully applied for $3,030 towards their centre. All four projects were funded through the community support small grants program.

Four more projects, all in the RM of Springfield, will get a boost through the province’s community places program including $17,535 towards the play structure replacement at the Springfield Community Club, $15,000 for the rebuilding of Lions Community Park, $50,000 towards the addition of female dressing rooms, and $50,000 worth of investment in the renovation and expansion of the Springfield Learning Centre.

The RM of Piney and RM of Tache will receive community planning support thanks to Tuesday’s announcement. Piney will receive $20,000 towards its development plan review. Tache will receive $15,500 to aid its work on the secondary plan for the LUD of Lorette.
