An increase in the theft of vehicles, quads and ATV, as well as thefts from inside vehicles has been highlighted by Steinbach RCMP, who have turned to the public for support in preventing the crimes.

Police shared several tips in a weekend release of ways to avoid becoming a theft victim:

Keep vehicles locked at all times. Even in the cold winter months, use caution leaving vehicles running while unattended, police said.

Keep vehicles locked, even if parking them in an indoor garage. Lock garage doors too, including the doors from the garage into the residence.

Ensure that valuables are removed from vehicles.

Never leave keys in a vehicle and the vehicle unattended.

Use a hitch lock on trailers left outside or unattended, police added.

Anyone with information about the recent thefts is asked to contact Steinbach RCMP at (204) 326-4452 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus a message to Crimes (274637)
