A new venture from Steinbach Arts Council may give music students more local opportunities for advancement.

SAC has unveiled the Southeast Centre for Music. The centre will offer instruction in musical theatre, as well as piano, voice, strings and guitar, SAC said in a release. SAC has brought on new teachers, and will be providing new masterclasses to students.

The centre is also developing a curriculum-based, group-learning music program for younger children, said coordinator David Klassen. The purpose is to develop a musical foundation in kids, especially those who don’t have access to music instruction in school.

Chief creative officer Cindi Rempel Patrick told The Carillon that the new centre will allow advanced students to continue their studies without having to go to Winnipeg for instruction.

SAC also plans to present more community musical theatre productions where their vocal and instrumental students can show off their chops, Rempel Patrick said.
