Less than a week after cannabis was legalized across the country, one Steinbach teenager has learned the hard way that there are still rules to follow.

On Tuesday morning at 11 a.m., Steinbach RCMP said they received information that occupants of a motor vehicle were consuming cannabis.

A 16-year-old male received two tickets including one for unlawful transportation of cannabis in or on a vehicle and one for possession or consumption of cannabis by a young person.

Officers seized 29.5 grams of cannabis in the incident, which resulted in fines totaling $909.

In Manitoba, no individual under the age of 19 can possess cannabis.
