A 48-year-old woman from St Pierre was transported by STARS to Winnipeg hospital on Tuesday evening, after a two-vehicle collision west of the community.

A spokesperson for STARS described the woman’s injuries as serious.

RCMP responded to a report of the incident, which occurred on Provincial Road 205 about five miles west of St Pierre, around 5:40 p.m.

Police said a westbound Honda Civic collided with an eastbound Toyota Corolla. Investigation revealed that work being done in a neighbouring field, along with high winds, resulted in snow blowing onto the road and reducing visibility.

The vehicles avoided a head-on collision but “somewhat sideswiped each other”, police said.

The 19-year-old male driver of the Honda was not injured, but his 48-year-old female passenger was airlifted. The driver of the Toyota, a 41-year-old female, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

All involved were St Pierre residents.
