The weather may have been a bit cool and windy, but that didn’t stop over 2,000 people from lending a hand in Steinbach’s 14th annual Pick Up and Walk community cleanup on Saturday.

An estimated 2,250 volunteers, decked out in yellow garb, tackled garbage trash along city streets and beyond.

The routes covered the ditches, roads, parks, open fields, and highways towards Mitchell, Blumenort, and La Broquerie.

A total of 9.5 tons of garbage was picked up, which organizers said translates into about $80,000 in labour savings for the city.

A total of 26 different churches and groups helped with this year’s event.
