Arrest warrants issued for two Steinbach men

Steinbach RCMP executed a search warrant around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning at a residence on Penner Street in Steinbach.

Several special police units assisted in the search including the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, along with Steinbach General Investigation Section. Police could be heard through a loudspeaker early Sunday morning attempting to communicate with occupants of the home.

Two imitation handguns, an edged weapon, drugs, drug paraphernalia and stolen property were seized in the search.

Arrest warrants have now been issued for two Steinbach residents, 36-year-old Paul Claeys and 32-year-old Steven James Lathlin. Two other men who were taken into custody at the residence during the search have been released without charge.

Claeys and Lathlin both face multiple charges related to court breaches. Lathlin also has been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a weapon contrary to a court order.

Another man was also arrested for impaired driving while attending the residence. He was found in possession of four grams of crystal meth, police said.
